Jesse Barrett - This classically-trained oboist gone crooner will be joining MIM for SummerFest at our June 15th concert and dinner - Opening Night in the Garden. Jesse Barrett is a passionate singer with a hypnotic voice. Known to Music in the Mountains for his enchanting oboe performances, Mr. Barrett has appeared with a number of Bay Area ensembles, performing a wide range of repertoire from Handel’s G Minor concerto, to Copland’s “Quiet City,” Barrett is an avid chamber musician, new music enthusiast and teacher of students of all ages throughout Northern California having served on faculty at San José State University, California State University Stanislaus and Dominican University. The Music in the Mountains Youth Orchestra MIMYO Spring Concert. Music from around the world and featuring students from the MIM First Notes program. The Music in the Mountains Youth Orchestra (MIMYO) is the region’s only youth orchestra and offers the orchestral experience to players in grades 3-12. Under the direction of professional conductors, MIMYO offers one-on-one mentorship, performance experience, and music education. String, woodwind, brass, and percussion players will work on classical repertoire during weekly rehearsals at the Grass Valley Campus of Sierra College; all in a friendly, nurturing environment. MIMYO is a program of Music in the Mountains, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded in 1982. MIMYO is supported by the generosity of donors and community members–people like you! Firebird

The Music in the Mountains Orchestra brings Stravinsky's Firebird Suite along with Edward Elgar's Cello Concerto in E minor, Op. 85, Jessie Montgomery’s Starburst, and Jennifer Higdon’s Blue Cathedral. Feat. Adelle Akiko Kearns on Cello. Hailed by critics as an “impressive” cellist exhibiting “beautifully sensuous cello playing,” Adelle-Akiko Kearns is a highly in demand solo, chamber and orchestral performer based in the San Francisco Bay Area. The recipient of the prestigious Artists International Award, Adelle made her New York recital debut at Carnegie’s Weill Hall in November of 2008. Since then she has appeared on the world’s most important stages including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, Suntory Hall, Davies Symphony Hall, and many others. Adelle is currently the Principal Cellist of the Santa Rosa Symphony, Assistant Principal Cellist of Symphony Silicon Valley, the Monterey Symphony and the Music in the Mountains Festival Orchestra, and is also a regular substitute cellist with the San Francisco Symphony. Hailed by the Herald-Tribune for his “dazzling pianism verging on the impossible, effortless technical command and authority with a sense of poetry and refinement that belies his years,” Indian-American pianist Vijay Venkatesh has been recognized on three continents as a pianist with profound musicianship, sparkling pianism and an innate sense of partnership.
