Music in the Mountains September Chorus Auditions

August 21, 2013, Nevada City, CA

Do you like to sing? The Music in the Mountains Chorus is currently seeking singers of all voice types for the 2013-2014 concert season.

The MIM Chorus is an auditioned community chorus made up of approximately 100 singers from the NevadaCounty area.  The Chorus performs several concerts per year to packed houses and critical acclaim.  A recent SummerFest highlight was Beethoven’s 9th symphony performed with the MIM Orchestra.  The Sacramento Chorale Calendar review of the Beethoven noted that the choral “tone was rich and well-balanced” and the “ethereal section before the fugue had poignant beauty.”

Chorus Director, Ryan Murray, is quickly gaining esteem as one of the top young conductors in Northern California.  He has superbly guided the growth and improvement of the group since 2008.   In the fall and spring, Murray invites professional singers from the regional opera companies he conducts to lead in-depth workshops on vocal production and interpretation of the concert repertoire.

If you are a strong reader yearning for the opportunity to sing in a high level community chorus, auditions will take place on September 9from 4-7 p.m. at PeaceLutheranChurch in GrassValley.  There is no need to prepare anything.  Singers will be asked to perform basic sight-reading and a few vocal exercises to check range, pitch, and vocal quality.

Music in the Mountains exists to inspire and engage community members of all ages by providing access to extraordinary classical music through performances and youth education programs.

To schedule an audition, contact Ryan Murray, at ryan@nullmusicinthemountains.org  and visit the MIM website at musicinthemountains.org for more information.
