Unique Jazz Harp Trio Performs Saturday, April 16
Nevada City, CA (April 1, 2011) – Acclaimed jazz harpist Motoshi Kosako and his trio will perform Saturday night, April 16, at St. Joseph’s Cultural Center in Grass Valley. The 7:30 concert, presented by Music in the Mountains (MIM) will feature original works by Kosako, who has just returned from his Japan Tour. The trio includes Kosako, Bill Douglass on bass and Chinese bamboo flute and Daryl Van Druff on drums.
Kosako currently resides in Nevada County and has played harp with the MIM Festival Orchestra in past seasons. “Harp as a jazz instrument is very unusual and we are excited to present this concert,” comments Gregory Vajda, artistic director for Music in the Mountains. “Motoshi is an amazing player and this is going to be a great evening.”
A complimentary champagne, coffee and dessert reception will follow the concert, to celebrate MIM’s 30th anniversary.
According to Sacramento Magazine, “Kosako plays with fluid, modern style that evokes Keith Jarrett and Chick Corea.” Harp Column magazine has said, “Motoshi Kosako, a Japanese native whose introspective soloing was reminiscent of Keith Jarrett….”
Tickets for the concert may be purchased online at www.musicinthemountains.org or by calling the box office at (530) 265-6124.
