Music in the Mountains Announces Auditions for Festival Chorale
Group Forming Now for Holiday Choral Concerts
Grass Valley, CA, August 17, 2010 — Music in the Mountains announced today that conductor Ryan Murray will hold auditions for experienced singers interested in joining the 90-voice Festival Chorale. Auditions will be held on Wednesday, September 1 at Peace Lutheran Church from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The individual auditions will be in three parts: vocalization, pitch memory and sight singing.
Rehearsals for the Holiday Choral Concerts will be held on Wednesday nights at Peace Lutheran Church in Grass Valley and will begin on September 8. The concerts will be December 3, 11 and 12.
Interested singers should call Chrissie at the Music in the Mountains office, 265-6173, to sign up for an audition time.
“We have an exciting selection of music for the Holiday concerts and Summer Fest, including a return to great choral masterworks,” commented Ryan Murray. “I would like to hear any experienced singers who have an interest in joining our hard-working, ever-improving group.”
The Holiday concert line-up will include Rutter’s Gloria, O Magnum Mysterium by Tomás Luis de Victoria, Ave Maria by Kverno Trond, Christmas Ornaments and many other favorites. Summer Fest will include For the Summer Fest, two choral master works and a variety of other music.
The Music in the Mountains Festival Chorale is the premier chorus of the foothills, with roots dating back to the 1960s. Under the direction of Ryan Murray, highly acclaimed summa cum laude graduate of California State University, Sacramento, the 90-member auditioned group is made up of experienced choral singers from the Grass Valley, Nevada City and Auburn areas. With weekly rehearsals and individual study and practice, the MIM Festival Chorale is dedicated to presenting superior performances and maintains professional standards of excellence. The chorus performs in two to four festivals annually and has premiered a number of new works from famous local composers. The group’s repertoire includes a range of a capella and major works with orchestra.
In addition to his work with Music in the Mountains, Murray is musical director for the Modesto Opera, a conducting faculty member for the Bay Area Summer Opera Theater Institute, and director of vocal activities with the Vocal and Instrumental Teaching Academy (VITA) in Sacramento.
