MIM Presents Concert and Music Faire for Families

Saturday, July 2, Music in the Mountains (MIM) will present a special concert for families along with an activity-filled “Music Faire.” This transformation of the organization’s traditional “Kinderkonzert” will be held at the Fairgrounds and is designed as a fun and educational day for kids and parents.

The preconcert outdoor family “Music Faire” includes an instrument petting zoo, where kids can browse a collection of real instruments, with student and community musicians providing demonstrations. Music-themed storybook center and coloring booths will be held on the lawn, along with fun photo opportunities, DVD presentations, a “mystery composer” guest and a booth featuring MIM’s educational programs. The fun starts at 10 a.m. and families are invited to bring snacks, along with their cameras.

The indoor concert performance is at 11:30 a.m., featuring works by Mozart, Britten, Haydn and others. MIM artistic director Gregory Vajda will provide helpful insights on the music and highlight how different instruments contribute to the orchestra sound. “This is a great way for families to learn about music together,” explains Vajda. “With fewer and fewer opportunities available in school these days, MIM is committed to helping kids learn about the wonders of classical music.”

Terry Brown, MIM’s co-executive director and event producer comments, “This family day combines lots of interactive experiences and opportunities for ‘up-close and personal’ contact with the music and musicians. And it’s not just for kids. I’ve been in and around music for more years than I like to admit, but every time I attend one of these events I learn something new.”

Adult tickets for this event are only $10.00, and kids are admitted free. This event is sponsored by SPD Markets.

Tickets for Music in the Mountains’ concerts and events may be purchased online at www.musicinthemountains.org or by calling the box office at (530) 265-6124.
