“Dinner Divertimento” with Chamber Music Kicks Off SummerFest 2011
Nevada City, CA (May 24, 2011) – Music in the Mountains (MIM), the largest and longest continuously running classical music organization in the Sierra Foothills, will host “Dinner Divertimento” on Saturday, June 18 to usher in SummerFest 2011, the organization’s 30th anniversary season. An elegant evening of fine food and exceptional chamber music, the dinner will be held at Miners Foundry Cultural Center in Nevada City. Guests will have the opportunity to enjoy an intimate get-together with Gregory Vajda, artistic director, and some of MIM’s principal orchestra players.
The evening opens with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, followed by a performance of Mozart’s “Quintet for Piano and Woodwinds” and Ernst von Dohnányi’s “Sextet for Piano, Clarinet, Horn, and String Trio, Op.37.” Dinner will be catered by Jim E.
“Divertimento comes from the Italian word that means ‘to amuse,’ explains Vajda. “ The Divertimento genre represents a tradition of social gatherings with music performed by small ensembles. It’s a perfect way to experience this music first-hand and enjoy an elegant dinner party at the same time.”
Tickets are $75.00 per person and the deadline for reservations is June 8. Reservations may be made online at www.MusicInTheMountains.org or by calling (530) 265-6124.
Music in the Mountains’ SummerFest 2011 runs from June 18 through July 3 and features classical concerts with orchestra and chorus, a family concert, an outdoor event with Cirque de la Symphonie and the always-popular “Happy Birthday, USA” picnic and pops event on July 3.
