Young Musicians’ Competition & Showcase Concert

The Young Musicians Competition (YMC) was first held in 1987. It provides the opportunity for Nevada, Placer, Sutter and Yuba County music students, grades 3-12, to study, memorize and perform classical repertoire for professional teachers and judges. Students can participate in solo as well as ensemble divisions. All participating students receive detailed written critiques from the adjudicators.

Music in the Mountains works with private and public school music teachers to ensure that this program meets students’ needs. Cash prizes are awarded to winners. The Jean Brook Dunning Scholarship is awarded to best student performance. The competition concludes with a Showcase Concert, which is open to the public and features the winners in all categories and divisions.
