An Animal Sanctuary and New Music?

YCP’s interdisciplinary collaboration with Animal Place explored the harsh realities of factory animal farming and AP’s belief that “all creatures are important, human and non-human animal life”.

Animal Place is a 600 acre sanctuary for factory farmed animals in Grass Valley, CA and is connected to Rescue Ranch, a 60 acre shelter in Vacaville, CA. Students toured AP, talked with co-founder and Executive Director, Kim Sturla and Education Director, Marji Beach. They became profoundly aware of where their food comes from. They saw, first hand, the importance of a permanent sanctuary, pertinent education, and legislation. Students then wrote music inspired by these powerful experiences. This new music was performed live by professional musicians over the course of two concerts on June 2015 at Peace Lutheran Church as part of Music in the Mountains’ Summerfest.
