Brummitt Taylor Listening Program

Classical Music Enriches the Classroom

Brummitt Taylor (BT) is a comprehensive program that includes eight classical music  CDs with lesson plans and instructions for teaching and playing music in the classroom for five to ten minutes a day, five days a week for five years. Music in the Mountains makes these kits available to teachers free of charge as part of our educational outreach program.

We provide support in school teachers’ use of the program with training events. A BT Teachers Workshop, in conjunction with the Nevada County Superintendent of Schools Office, helps with implementation.  This program has been in place since 2003 and is now reaching to more than 3,500 Nevada County school children every day.

We offer  DVDs of the annual Young Composers Concert and Young Musicians Showcase Concert. Volunteer videographers have generously donated their time to document our  Brummitt Taylor Listening ProgramMusic Live and Young Composers Program. These DVDs demonstrate the impacts of the MIM education programs.
